In recent times, AirPods are one of the best products given to us by Apple. Their design is slick and classy, and the experience report from their users has gained them even more fans on a worldwide scale such that even their previous critics simply criticize this new design. This first launch of AirPods was way back in the year 2016, and as you can imagine, it is past the time for an upgrade. The upgrade is here, and it is in the form of the Airpods 2. If you are thinking of making this upgrade and you are wondering what the actual difference is between the AirPods and the AirPods 2, then you are in the right place. Here are the differences that you should know about between the original AirPods and the upgraded AirPods 2.

The Design

Let us first start with what Apple did not change about this product. The AirPods and the AirPods 2 are clearly sporting the same slick design. Apart from the almost unnoticeable fact that the AirPods 2 casing is slightly heavier, both have the same dimensions, and as a matter of fact, there is simply no way to tell the difference between these two products when you place them next to each other. I guess you could say that Apple did not want to mess with perfection.

The Efficiency, Sound Quality, and Performance

Another feature that Apple did not bother to tamper with is the sound quality of the AirPods 2. Apple has been able to deliver quality audio with the original AirPods, and they simply did not see the need to change this quality.
However, in terms of its efficiency and performance, there is a difference. At the core of the original AirPods, you would find a W1 chip while in the AirPods 2, what you would find is an H1 chip. This new H1 chip is responsible for the AirPods 2 being more efficient than the AirPods. For starters, the Airpods 2 have the ability to pair faster with devices and the ability to switch devices at twice the speed. The AirPods 2, courtesy of the H1 chip, has a 30% lower latency which is great news for gamers. It also gives a talk time boost of about 50% as well as delivering a connection that is more stable. The H1 chip in the AirPods 2 also makes it able to be voice activated. This means that all you need to do is say “Hey Siri” and you have a list of voice commands at your disposal. This is one step up in the conveniences that Apple normally offers.

The Battery Life

With all of the extended talk time that the AirPods 2 delivers, it is only logical that they would also come with improved battery life. This is yet another difference between the AirPods and the AirPods 2. The AirPods 2 gives you up to three hours more talk time, unlike the original AirPods. While this is great news, the AirPods 2 casing also comes with over 24 whole hours of battery life. This means that you can go for up to a week between charging your AirPods case. What is more is that, with just a 15 minutes charge, you can have up to three hours of complete talking and listening time with the AirPods 2.
One major feature of the AirPods 2 that pertains to the power is the AirPods casing. While on the surface all looks normal and the same, the Airpods 2 casing is quite different from that of the original AirPods. This is because AirPods 2 has a Wireless Charging Case. This means that the new AirPods 2 Wireless Charging Case is compatible with and would work with basically any Qi charger at all. Still, on the topic of the AirPods 2 casing, it is also compatible with the original AirPods.

The Pricing

Generally, the original AirPods and AirPods 2 are sold at the same amount; however, if you consider adding the Wireless Charging Case, the price of the product shoots higher. While you can get the Airpods 2 with the Wireless Charging Case at a higher price than you would normally get the AirPods 2. As stated earlier, this Wireless Charging Case is compatible with the original AirPods, and so, you can get this Wireless Charging Case alone to pair with your AirPods.

While AirPods are great, and AirPods 2 are even greater, the question is if the upgrade is worth taking. The battery upgrade on the AirPods 2 was necessary and great; however, if you decide to keep your AirPods and simply get a Wireless Charging Case, then it would also be a great deal. However, if you are yet to get your AirPods, you may as well get the AirPods 2 with the Wireless Charging Case.
